In the first comprehensive study of Niki de Saint Phalle’s tirs, Dr. Rachel S. Fesperman uncovers the unique dynamics of the global 1960s. The power of the performative, transnational networks, and art criticism all contributed to the success of Saint Phalle’s raucous shootings of the early 1960s and, thus, played a role in the development of contemporary art.
